What a way to start my morning! I’m in this cozy coffee house, waiting for my flight back home while people are running back and forth around me in order to catch their planes. I feel like I’m part of a movie scene - like a timelapse, you know. Take a moment to picture this - a geek sitting at his laptop, while everyone passes by in a hurry. Fast-forward three hours later, and our guy is still there, all alone, closing his laptop lid slowly. The plane he was supposed to catch landed in some other city, leaving him behind. Now add some basic indie song as a soundtrack and you have an edgy Netflix movie intro. Wait! I think I just found my true calling - haha.
My americano is way too hot to drink, so I guess it would be a good time to get this started. It’s been a while since I had the idea of this website, but I was either too afraid that I won’t stick with it or too busy to start writing something. I had a blog before - way back in highschool, but it was nothing like this. Back then I was writing nihilistic poetry and short stories about absurd situations and absurd people - I guess ‘kafkaesque’ would be a well-suited word to describe my attempts to become a writer, but lets leave my so-called teenage angst behind.
An involuntary spasm of the diaphragm and respiratory organs.
This is how you define the word hiccup, right? Pretty straight forward… but what if we tried to use this word as a figure of speech - like a metaphor, for instance. I guess we could then say hiccups are nothing else, but involuntary manifestations of our inner self in his attempt to break through the monotony. An attempt that is meant to be both self-revealing and healing.
This right here, is my first hiccup. I’m not even bothered by it, so I’ll just let it happen before I reach home and put my best clothes on in order to go back to the office. I know I just made it sound like a burden, but hear me out. I genuinely love my job and everything that comes with it. Well, almost everything - but I’m willing to ignore its downsides for now.
Every time I turn my laptop on and I start coding, I feel so empowered, yet humble… Think about it. Not so long ago, a man, an idea and a laptop changed the way we live our lives, the way we see each other and the way we communicate with our peers. I’m not necessarily saying it changed everything for the better, but it’s amazing how much power one can have nowadays with a little help from technology. Sure, not everyone makes it this big, but just knowing that your lines of code are going to be executed somewhere by some guy you never met is an unique feeling. If you screw it up, he’s going to be frustrated, if you do good he’ll most probably come back for more, or even tell his friends about your app - hooray! It’s a form of art, really! Just like a song that makes you feel some type of way, an application may trigger something inside you.
Even though it’s an amazing thing, sometimes I grow tired of it. And that’s when hiccups should kick in. You see… I enjoy writing, sharing experiences and code(why not?) - so when the time comes I’ll be back here to talk about my life as a developer, my latest experiences as a young programmer and some tools that I think are worth a try. Maybe we will build some apps along the way too, who knows?
In the meantime - I really need to catch this flight.
